Well you're definitely in the right location VJM if you accept the way things are going in the world.... I mean if it's all about demand when the world gets low on wheat Hovis will be charging £1,000 for a loaf....... and then we'll all be in debt  , but how could anyone blame them for cashing in and making as much profit as they can? The rich would survive and the not so rich would starve which is what it's all about I guess.

I think in a way the buyer was forced.. let's face it retro-buying is a drug to most of us and this buyer was faced with a dilemma when he was presented with a real quality piece of gear. Like anyone with an addiction and the right amount of cash his lack of will-power forced him to make the purchase at whatever the cost (I would be no different because I am not perfect either). So who do the blame; the pusher or the addict? It's a tough one but I'm leaning towards the pusher as a pusher will create demand and £££ in

Racer x, the date on the boxes was 1994 so I would think that's makes them original :)

It's about about giving opportunities for
Fellow riderS to purchase bike history not greed.
Who's to say what a product is worth- £100 for example)
These tyres were probably £80? A pair in the 90's

not strictly true IMO.

I could give you an 'opportunity' to buy my tyres for £10000. Some numbnut out there may take that opportunity on the overpriced ring of rubber, but the vast majority of RBer's would miss out. Because a wealthy numpty got in there with his huge disposable income.

The other point made was that much trading that takes place represents a shared love for a low cost hobby. Over inflated prices remove those original hobbyists from the picture.

I agree that they should be worth whatever they cost new though, unless you were feeling generous.

Does this make me a socialist? Oh God...

Thread

Brilliant a thread on 3 pages- I achieved my ambition, upset
The apple cart and learnt how to lose friends and influence people
Oh and become a drug dealer- brill days work

My mate has blown out on the tyres now too, so I will keep them boxed
In nos condition and say no more.

Anyone want to buy a Klein attitude dolomite
Say £40 ? Seeing as they are so common and
Not wanting to rip anyone off.

For what it's worth guymuttley21, I think you're getting an unnecessarily hard time. It's wrong for people to arbitrarily point to one sale and say the price is too high. There are parts on this site and elsewhere that go for prices way in excess of what they're worth - they weren't that effective BITD and certainly not worth the money now. But it's rarity.

Original rubber is probably the one thing that most of us need to make our bikes complete. On that basis, it will continue to command high prices. If you'd sold them for too little, someone would have posted that they would have offered you more. Sometimes you can't win.

I thought the rules were no commenting on prices?

If someone paid £175 for these tyres then that's up to them - if they had to have them that minute the price was £175, if they'd have waited a few months then they may have saved a ton.....

I bought NOS onza porcs from the same seller on eBay on a second chance offer (the seller had a second pair) for £110 so that shows how volotile the prices are - you pays your money and you makes your choices!
