I don't mean the Mrs and kids.Does any one ever get a pain in the top of your shoulders/bottom of kneck. I thought maybe the riding position.. but i have two bikes which are set up a little different as in handle bar hieght. This does not seem to make any difference. After about an hours riding it starts to get quite painfull. Any one get anything or had anything like this.. :?

I've given up on flat bars for that very reason. I'm just too old for the head down, arse up riding position. The only way I can stop it starting to hurt is by keeping my neck as straight as possible.

Sounds like shes too streched out :?
Try a shorter steeper rise on the stem and a riser bar ,twist the bars towards the rear to lift them further.

DO NOT PUT BAR-ENDS ON THE RISERS ;)

Firstly, I'd say get yourself to a good physio, there's all manner of stuff potentially going on, and you'd need someone to assess your posture and whatnot to sort you out properly.

Anyhoo, it sounds like you've got mouse shoulder!! It's nothing personal, it's tight upper and middle traps, and 'stretching' them out on your bike is what's causing the pain. I'd suggest googling some upper traps/neck stretching exercises, sticking a hot water bottle on it, and getting a significant other to massage it or you could try googling trigger point release for upper traps. Or do all of the above?!

Because you're looking at a muscle group that combines neck and shoulder/arm movements, it's horribly complicated to diagnosis over tinternet, hence why a good physio can really help. I guess my point is, you can treat the symptoms and adjust your riding position, but you're not treating the cause....

Finally, and most importantly, like Dyna says - DO NOT PUT BAR-ENDS ON RISER BARS.

wow. thanks for the replys. a lot to take in, but with out doubt i will have to do something as i get this every time now when the ride is over a hour, which most are. cheer's.

I have the same kind of thing, All down my spine and on my shoulders, All the time though, as opposed to just riding.. No idea how to fix it.. I just get on with it.. Though this won't help you.. Advicewise..

That sounds a bummer, mine is only when i ride and then only after a length of time.cheer's any way.

could be your posture..if your relaxing your shoulders and neck muscles..so your sorta sagging in that area if you know what I mean..brace up a bit..other than that could be your useing those muscles a lot,and just like weight training they're getting used and ache after..but they'll build up over time and get used to it.. my theory anyway
