Pace...where's it all going?

I like it  not the prettiest 29er but has some really nice touches for a production bike that you'll only see on boutique custom.

I can honestly say that the most fun I've had on an mtb in ages (since getting my retro Pine Mountain..) has been on my on my On-One 29er singlespeed :D

Also, after chopping his full susser for funds, my mate (Giant-one) will be aquiring one of Brants' Ragley frames next week. Can't wait to see it built.

Seems more and more people are returning back from modern alloy (or carbon??) full suspension rides and going back to steel, hardtail or just looking for something different and above all, fun.

I feel most bikes these days lack any kind of soul, which is why more and more people will buy/collect/ride retro as the years go on.

I was going to quote the whole post (but it kinda get's lost/annoying)

That line sums it up for me.

As an example I was in hellfuds the other day trying to buy a pair of cable cutters* (as mine had been swiped and the LBS didnt have any in stock)and a lot of what they had was so.. bland and generic. Bike brand "B" looked like bike Brand "M"

* They didn't have any to sell me - only a pair for shop use. you'd swear they actually didn't want to take my money.

I'm gonna disagree, there are alot of really nice modern bikes out there just depends where you look. Granted there will be hee haw in Halfords but there wasn't anything in there 20 years ago either.

Yes, lots of great bikes out there now. Steel, Ti or Carbon, you just need to look beyond the obvious.

Back to an earlier comment- if On One/ Ragley/ Brant Richards has made the steel hardtail 'trendy' again I'm off to the shed to cut up my bikes with a hacksaw.

Would that be a good old fashioned Hacksaw or one of those trendy leccy ones?

al. :D

I think thats lovely, probably not my perfect spec but the frame, fork and bar/stem combo looks the business. But I am biased as I have two clown bikes already. This could very well be number threen if I cannot sell one of my kids to fund a Jones

Pants Man !!!

What has Brant Richards done to you Dr S ?

The guy has to be given credit were credit is due ! He has only done on update on what Lester Noble did in the late 80's and early 90's. But nobody slags him off , he's seen as an innovator . And what did he do that was cool ? Give his bikes catchy names ?

I don't own an On One or a Ragley and don't really have a desire to either but this guy (Richards) not only made steel hardtails trendy again and also affordable to the masses

And last but not least he invented a whole new market for long travel hardtails that can be used as AM/XC touring , commuting , sus / rigid , flat bar / drop bar . And lets not forget this is one model (In Bred) .

So to me it's cool because the market has diversified massively in whole new directions , mountain bikes with drops ? We havn't seen that since the days of Tomac , and it is just the coolest thing to see

MMMMMMMMMMM

I'd like to see the Pace 129 with

Pace carbon rigid fork

Hope or Middleburn disc hubs

Hope brakes

Hope headset

Hope , Royce or Middleburn B/B

U.S.E. bars , seatpost , stem and saddle .

Middleburn chainset

Hope front hub

Rolhoff rear 14 speed .

Now that would be cooooooool !

Did you read my mind???

To be honest I would probably run it ss without the Rolhoff, or how about a NuVinci CVP (not mtb approved yet but surely cannot be long OFF)

The more I look at this the more i think I will start putting some cash aside for a frame when they become available. Will go very nicely with the Pace RC29er fork that the postie has just delivered. Woohoo!
