i have to say i was never really a pace frame fan same with the suss forks although i really like the rigid forks (steel and carbon versions) that said i do like the steel frames they have designed recently although personnaly i wouldn't buy one for some of the reasons listed above but the main one being that all these type of frames are way too niche for me and my riding style.
the colours, well that's personal anyway, 853 is good tubing, singlespeed? just don't get it. 29er? good for tall guys but not for mr average like me, one piece bar stem combo, i prefer separate parts.

Its fantastic to see the interest in skinny steel frames come back, and if I had the money I would have an order in for a 104. That said I agree that making up a "back to our routes" story is silly, especially when the route that Pace grew from were so inovative and so far ahead (excuse the pun) of the time, they should celebrate where they really came from, not a false /generic "steel is real" back ground.

As an example I was in hellfuds the other day trying to buy a pair of cable cutters* (as mine had been swiped and the LBS didnt have any in stock)and a lot of what they had was so.. bland and generic. Bike brand "B" looked like bike Brand "M"
* They didn't have any to sell me - only a pair for shop use. you'd swear they actually didn't want to take my money.
The frame is not SS specific, it has sliding dropouts and a hanger, so can be run as a geared bike
I love the whole 29er thing, I have been riding them for over 6 years now and had my first frame custom built as nobody was going anything along those lines except Fisher and they were all Alloy
I'm not trying to have a pop at Pace, just wish they had gone with a nice design/feel rather than trying to go with the retro look when they are one of the few original British companies, hell they could have even gone with that nice "Burnt Orange" finish of the Suspension frames
In this design they are almost trying to be something they are not...

Bicycles seem to have taken a funny turn of late. A new bike shop has just opened about 200 yards away from my home. As well as kids bikes and some practical, road, mountain and hybrid bikes, there are an awful lot of what I think of as adult sized kids bikes, or perhaps "lifestyle" bikes would be a better monica.
In general, they are stylish, but on the whole impractical, too heavy or uncomfortable for anything much more than a leisurely cruise around the block, much like a Raleigh Chopper - have you ever tried riding any distance on one?
Currently in the window they have a selection of Pashley and Electra bicycles, and I will admit that I wouldn't mind taking some of them for a quick spin, but there's no way I'm going to splash out £600+ on such a niche item.

At last a return to cable mounts on the downtube. As an oldskool rider (ie real trails with proper hills) the need to shoulder a bike always ends up being more painful than it needs to be due to some poxy hose mount digging into your shoulder. Maybe Mr Carter was earwigging when i was ranting about it in the cafe at Dalby
I quite like it, afterall what's wrong with retro inspired styling?? I rode with some guys last night and every bike there was fecking ugly. The 104 is much nicer on the eye that any other Pace offering and that 29er continues the theme.

Love it or loathe it guys. You have to admit its beautifully detailed, something that Pace have always been good at.
