Pace...where's it all going?

Not feeling the love TBH.

Pace was always about innovation for me and I'm not seeing it in these steel bikes. Following someone elses fashion rather than setting their own.

I have a hunch that like all other Pace frames (and to a certain extent forks), these are never going to get distributed in large numbers and that supply will never meet demand. And this will keep prices artificially high, as was always the case.

However, the XCAM hardtails show that they are still capable of innovation (OK the Santa Cruz Chameleon did some of it first). The new Bottom Bracket shows an awareness of what their core public actually wants from them. I think we'll be seeing more from them in the future.

Getting out of hand

I think this discussion is starting to get out of hand to be honest , jeez everyone is entitled to an opinion for sure , but I sense a tinge of "personal" creeping in here

At the end of the day we are all cyclists thats obvious , I hope ?
One mans meat is another mans poison , live and let live etc .

It's making me think that certain points of view are not welcome on this site because they do not fall into a regimented doctorine of how someone with a zillion posts , or even some moderators think for that matter ?

I have been cycling with a passion since I was 10 years old , I am now 40 . So that is 30 years experience , twenty of which I have spent on mountain bikes , but it seems my opinion and other peoples opinions are not respected on here ?

Please do correct me if i'm wrong , because I sincereley hope I am ????
Pete

I just thought everyone was having a good discussion tbh, things go off topic a bit but it's all good, I don't think the amount of posts or how long someones been on the site has ever come into it, at the end of the day it's just bikes!

Quite like the Pace tbh, also like their full sussers. Don't know why every one's getting so upset though. To me different bikes serve different roles, each being different but equally as fun. I love my old Clockworks but like the ride of my new (1993) Vit-T even more. I'd never be without my Orange 5 though because it's a completely seperate riding experiance and a style I love. Neither's better or worse, just not the same. ;)

Not sure about your 'Orange pile of ****' remark though Graham. I can confirm that I do use more then 80mm of travel and having tried an Inbred (and soon to try a BP) think I'll be sticking with the 5.

Oh, and I'd also love a square tubed Pace! :D

As you say everyone is diffrent and see things in a diffrent way, which is good in away. I have had my fair share of retro bikes, some being Pace RC200, Orange Clockwork, Kone Hei Hei and a couple of Kleins, but i have now had my time build retro bikes for the time being anyway and enjoying something modern, i would have thought you guys would have appriciated godd old steel. :D
I live 1 min away from the Orange factory at Hollywell green on Stainland road and yes they are made well and work in a simple manner, but if you go to these trail centres eg Glentress and the Welsh ones all you bloody see is middle aged idiots with a serious face on bouncing up and down on thenm in a flat carpark, and what you normally find the bike they are on is either a Specialzied or a 5 and it does my head in, way too many about, people should broaden there search when looking for a new ride, my full sus is a Cube Stereo, and my mate has just bought a Cube Fritzz since he got it he has never used his 5 he says the Cube rides far better and far smoother, old technology on the 5 you see.

Totally agree, same goes for Trek's, I think the problem is the large "chain" cycle shops and their tie ins with the big boy producers.

There's a reason the 5 keeps winning awards though Graham, and if loads of people have 'em then they must have something going for 'em. ;) I've tried loads of modern full sussers (inc Cube's) and imo nothing comes close to the 5. Don't have a problem with people who like other styles though.

Be careful what you wish for with the Ragleys too, as they seem to be flying off the shelves (my pal collected the last 20" in the country this morning) and may soon have those middle age carpark bouncers trading down for the latest 'fashion statement'

I get were you are coming from, but orange do spend alot of money advertising in mags, so if the mags didnt rate them they wouldnt advertise with them, more money a company spends with a mag the better reveiws they will get, thats what i believe anyway. i suppose i just do not like common bikes, i dont really think its anything to do with the quality, but when i see alot of a certain bike i just think, AAHHHHHH another one of them and take a dislike to them.
Yes i agree trek are becoming common, and when large companies start discounting bikes it kind of like puts the product down, you see alot of new bikes nearly half price and that to me is wrong, and it doesnt help when you come to try and sell it, you end up paying full wack for a bike lets say £3K somewere then flogs em out at the back end of the year for 2K your £3K bike in under a year becomes worth £1K

Peteteamtig, i totally agree it can get very " CLICKY " on here sometimes, if you dont live retro and ride retro you kind of get a little bullied to say the least when you have your opinion.

Tut tut - a post count of 211 and you say we are clicky??  ****EDIT*****: TONGUE IN CHEEK ALERT

Its a site about retro bikes, depending on when you were born, an Orange Gringo could be your retro ride or a Dawes Ranger to me or a Hetchins to Old Ned.

Pace were an innovative company, now to me, they seem to be unsure of what Pace stands for in 2010 when there a bunch of cyclist with long memories hiding around every corner.
