Pace RC35 problem

1. What's the axle to crown measurement supposed to be for early RC35s? Mine is 440mm, which seems, and looks, a bit long.

2. I rebuilt the fork a couple of months ago and I'm pretty sure I put it back together the way it was meant to be (and followed instructions from John Deverill), but is it possible I didn't do it correctly? If so, then what could cause longer extension like this?

3. Having checked old photos of the forks before I ever did anything to the bike, it looks like they've always been a bit long (see pics) although when I received them, they had springs inside rather than the correct elastomers that they now have.

what elastomers did you use? if it's proper pace ones, have you put the rebound damper in the right place?
I believe so - in the bottom of the fork legs, not inside the fork legs, if you know what I mean.
Ignore the rusty washers & bolts, they were replaced with new ones.
The forks are quite simple inside, I don't see how I could have gone wrong 🤷‍♂️

I have the later version with the machined aluminium bridge, not the circular one.
My Dimensions are 362mm centre of axle to bottom of crown, measured up the side of a leg.
49mm exposed stanchion between wiper seal at top of leg and underside of crown.
223mm total overall length of Stanchion (disassembled)

What's the axle to top of crown, please? (I'm not at home to compare the other measurements yet, I only know the 440mm off the top of my head. I do know for sure that my exposed stanchions must be way more than 49mm though!)
