No need to machine the cranks if they are the original ones. Pace machined all their bullseye spindles down to 22mm from 7/8"(22.2MM).
Just get either of these bearings. Common motorcycle wheel bearing size.

-2Z looks more authentic but the sealings not too clever. I prefer to run -2RS with rubber seals for longevity. I remove the inner seal before fitting so the seals don't press into the races when you inject more grease into the bb.

Interesting, thanks. This would explain why the chap I bought mine off swore blind the metric size fitted fine and actually gave me a boxed set of original too.

I 'might' be able to swap some lovely Pro/231 wheels for XT/231 equivalent mate. I'm undecided on the build for my mint Clockwork frame set and have a nearly complete and mint groupset of suntour + XT. :?
Saying that, the suntour might be comp.... need to check :facepalm:

Thanks all, great information. Pete those pics are fantastic, particularly the shot under the crown. Apologies for asking but is that exactly ha Pace did it? Also, you don't happen to have a shot of the stem unfitted do you please?
