Impressive stuff - this is going to be a great bike.
Can you just confirm what you had done to the pedal cages please? You said they were anodised. Are you using 'anodised' as a generic term for re-plated ?
I would have thought they were maybe zinc plate & black passivate finish. I'm no plating expert - but I do have a load of steel stuff that I need to be blacked nicely like your pedal cages. Not just bike stuff. It would be great if I knew what to ask for when I take a big box of stuff to the platers.
Up until now I've always just painted things, than watched the paint fall off over the next few years and wondered why I bothered

Hi Paddy
The XT pedal cages are aluminium, I had polished the scratches out and degreased them, they were anodised black at Badger Anodising in Birmingham.
If your parts are mild steel I don't think they can be anodised, you can anodise stainless or zinc, so you would probably have to go down the powdercoat or paint route.
I know cast aluminium doesn't anodise to well, but I had some M730 crank arms anodised silver after polishing them and they came out really nice

You can polish steel, I'm not sure how easy it would be getting the scratches out as its a much harder material to work with but its possible, you could powdercoat the cages, but they too will wear tho not as quickly as paint
