Impressive stuff - this is going to be a great bike.

Can you just confirm what you had done to the pedal cages please? You said they were anodised. Are you using 'anodised' as a generic term for re-plated ?

I would have thought they were maybe zinc plate & black passivate finish. I'm no plating expert - but I do have a load of steel stuff that I need to be blacked nicely like your pedal cages. Not just bike stuff. It would be great if I knew what to ask for when I take a big box of stuff to the platers. :)

Up until now I've always just painted things, than watched the paint fall off over the next few years and wondered why I bothered

Hi Paddy
The XT pedal cages are aluminium, I had polished the scratches out and degreased them, they were anodised black at Badger Anodising in Birmingham.
If your parts are mild steel I don't think they can be anodised, you can anodise stainless or zinc, so you would probably have to go down the powdercoat or paint route.
I know cast aluminium doesn't anodise to well, but I had some M730 crank arms anodised silver after polishing them and they came out really nice :D

Re: Overbury's Pioneer - Built in Bristol runs like clockwor

You can polish steel, I'm not sure how easy it would be getting the scratches out as its a much harder material to work with but its possible, you could powdercoat the cages, but they too will wear tho not as quickly as paint
