Overburys hybrid - fillet Columbus

Does that include the near 29% fees ?
No, so including fees and shipping it's £205.
Still a good buy imo. Frameset looks to be in excellent shape, stuck seatpost is the only obvious concern, beyond that I'm very pleased and excited to get my hands on it. Seen less tidy examples going for considerably more (before shipping) very recently.

Very nice.

Are you certain the seatpost is stuck ?
Not at all, but it's always a risk when you can't ask the question directly. I did message the auctioneer but just got a generic response about being unable to inspect every lot and that it was the sellers responsibility to list any faults. Honestly I am confident it isn't, but if I expect the worst then I won't be disappointed.

If it isn't then it's going to get an instant makeover, if it is then it'll go to the seatpostman and any decisions will follow that process.

I didn't win this !

I had a very close look at this bike and it raised a number of questions .

Firstly its a hybrid ie. it has 700c wheels , in fact Mavic Module 4 rims laced to Shimano Deore Q/R hubs
with rustless spokes . The rims are really quite old , and why not stainless spokes like other Overburys ?

I was not aware of Overburys ever making a hybrid , however it is undoubtedly the real thing and appears
to have had virtually no use . The V-brakes appear to be totally original from new and are Shimano Deore
and match all the other components . However the rear brake hanger ( for cantilevers ) is still in place ?
There is also a hole in the stem , so maybe cantilevers were fitted ?

The paint finish is powder coat denoting a later production , all the earlier bikes were wet painted

The seat post is way down , I could not get near enough to free it as it was hanging from the ceiling ,
judging from the general condition of the bike I would say it has been carefully stored and doubt
there will be a problem

Pedals are Shimano XT in mint condition , and the thumb shifters are early Shimano ( 1986 ? )

So its not a Pioneer and has components from a wide range of dates ( at least 10 years ) so
in many ways its typical Overburys . Nonetheless it should give you a lot of pleasure

It will be interesting to date the various components

Lastly the reason I placed a bid .................... The Dennis the Menace bell !

Great info, I really appreciate your eye witness account 👍
Is it not possible that this is a 26'' bike that has been converted to 700c?

ps - I'll send you the bell!

I guess its just possible that Andy had a customer who wanted a commuting bike with 700c wheels

After doing a trial fit he realised that there is sufficient clearance in a standard Pioneer frame to take a
700c wheel . All he had to do is move the brake pivot positions ????? ( This is all pure conjecture )

If you want to go back to 26" wheels then the big problem is the brake pivot positions on the forks
and seat stays . They would have to be moved to enable the brakes ( whether V or cantilever )
to operate on the different rim braking diameter

So you could convert to 26" and pretend its a Pioneer ! with plenty of clearance for some fat tyres ,
though its going to be expensive !

The bike looked like a typical hybrid with all the correct clearances for 700c when I saw it

Incidentally the old Mavic Module 4's don't even have machined/flat braking surfaces and are better
suited for use with hub brakes
