Isnt coursing illegal :?

Are you a pikie?
Coursing bunnies isn't, they are classed as vermin and can be, pretty much, hunted indiscriminately.
Just for entertainment, though?
While I do get a kick out of watching the dogs go their thing, they hunt for food not entertainment. ;)

I didn't mean their entertainment, I meant yours?

I'm guessing you feed them?

So you drive / walk out somewhere with them, then have them hunt some wabbit, just for kicks, really?

No, there is no pleasure in watching things die. The pleasure (if that's even the right word) is from watching the dogs do what comes naturally. They miss far more than they get and they eat rabbit as part of their diet so whatever they catch is used, otherwise I wouldn't hunt.

Just my personal opinion, but I think it's cruel and unnecessary.

You presumably feed your dogs, and I suspect their lives (and your's for that matter) wouldn't be incomplete if they'd never been taken coursing.

What did the waskally wabbits ever do to you or your dogs?

Rabbits are vermin, fact. This is why they can be hunted indiscriminately.
Each rabbit on a farmers land cost £10/year of damage, or so they say (the farmers).
Landowners are legally required to control the rabbit population on their land.. they face prosecution if they don't.

My dogs eat raw meat and bones, rabbit forms about 50% of their diet.
If they can catch it, they can eat naturally caught bunnies rather than ones that have had their brains blown out by a rifle.

In addition, by thinning out the population (of rabbits) the colony remains healthier than if they are left to their own devices.

Do you eat meat Neil?
Yes, why?

I can differentiate between hunting for one's own entertainment, dressed-up as enjoying animals at purpose, and animals bred and killed humanely.

My dog (and ferrets) were bred from generations of working stock, bought for the sole purpose of hunting.. they also fill a 'pet' role, which is nice.

I understand why people are anti-hunting, and there are aspects of hunting that I don't really like - and therefore wouldn't participate.
Such a shame that anti's are generally much too narrow minded to afford others the same courtesy.

IDB1, although it doesn't interest me, I dont think there is anything wrong with what you do. I am glad the catch gets eaten.

The local gamekeeper oftern brings me rabbit (all skinned etc) as he has to keep the numbers down.

He also has to kill a lot of grey squirrels to keep the population down. If not they will destroy ancient and significant trees on the estate.

People who object normally dont understand. Rabbits were introduced to this country by humans. Left to their own devices they breed out of control and our countryside cannot support them.

I would much rather your dogs catch and eat them than for them to be shot and burnt (for some reason most people wont eat rabbit) or for them to die from miximiwotsit.
