Ok, some may say i'm foolish! some may say i've bumped my head! others may say i'm reckless, but hey who cares, its different, i love it, and yes this is number two.
What am i talking about? Well welcome to my new addition, a March 1996 Orange X1 (Size Medium). After seeing an advert in the 'For Sale' section i knew i just had to have this, although some deliberation did take place and a slight delay occurred whilst i made some room in the Man Cave. Contact with the seller Jim (jimwise6 resulted in him holding it for us pending a collection date being organised and the subsequent exchange of the wonga.
Well that date came and off I trundled to pick it up. IT was good to meet Jim and chew the cud over bikes and sample a very nice coffee before it was time to return back to the flatlands of Norfolk X1 in hand.
Ok, the bike is a March 96 stamped frame in size Medium. Unlike my late 96/97 X1 this one is set up for Canti's. Finished in a very bright yellow with the Rock Shox finished in the same colour. The shock is the uprated version of the Strata Shock with remote Lock-out.
The plan with this build is primarily to set it up for my wife, who is really coming around to Retro-biking and becoming rather supportive (She must be after something???) however the dimensions are not too far apart from my size Large X1 so i may be tempted to take it out on the odd occasion.
So far it only has some Donor Wheels fitted, however the Orange Seatpost, and Saddle will stay. The Orange Hot Rods will be replaced with Orange Supercross Riser Bars. Two routes i have considered for groupsets are STX-RC or LX both of which i have in the Man Cave.
Anyway for the time being its a rolling frame but i am sure it wont be like it for long, the wife is already hinting at a weekend in the woods lol
Love it or hate it here is my Marmite build number two
