Orange Sub3 - Build Thread - now with pic

Yep - I'd have probably preferred to keep the Pace, but the Magura Durin are a better fork imho.
I'll tell you for why... both the Pace RC38LT & RC39 seemed a bit flexy & flimsy. The Magura are dual braced - and ride really well - because I didn't notice them at all. They went where I pointed them - no fuss - full 100mm of travel and it was all easy.
Previously at Brechfa, the Pace forks just hadn't given me the same confidence.

Fair enough. Ultimately bikes are for riding, not looking at!

I've never owned a set of Pace forks other than my RC35's. when I worked in a shop, we sold loads of RC 40's when they first came our.

Must get a new pic or too whilst it's sunny....
Can't resist showing a pic of the new stealthy Tune Bigfoot and rings.....
Jockey wheels were looking pretty stuffed - so new black Hope items...

Black Ti crankbolt & outer chainring bolts - Tune 22T inner ring - with Ti bolts

I'll probably go 2x9 on this in the near future :)

So, the Sub3 has been to the Isle of Mann again - for the End2End race.
Apart from the mother of all punctures at 9km - the Sub3 was a joy!

Great uphill and the Magura forks kept it all tidy on the downhill bits!

Hope Mini will be coming off over the winter - black Hope Mono Mini to go back on :)

The Sub3 has had a Crimble present!

Given that I didn't ever seem to use the granny ring..... I thought 2x9 would be an option.
As I've been running a Dura-Ace 27-12 cassette - I reckoned a little more range might be in order.

So the race wheels will shortly have a new XG999 cassette!
32-11 and only 173grammes - a thing of beauty!

Looks great and has given me some inspiration to rebuild my short travel Foes.

My younger brother has a SUB3 which he has used only once or twice (he bought it 2nd hand mind) Maybe I need to get him to donate it to me...

I remember it got a good review in Singletrack Mag.

Re:

Well - the Sub3 has served me well - but the time has come.....
But before I know this one on the head, I thought I better just document the final spec.
So if you fancy a full-sus XC bike - that'll come in under 23lb, check my Sale thread :)
