Have a 2001 P7 fitted with manitou forks probably from new, and I am thinking of changing to another period fork Pace rc36 evo thinking this would be an upgrade.
Yep! That's exactly what i did on my '99 Orange P7. If yours has the same Manitous that mine came with, then the bike will be much improved by a set of rc36s!
