Orange O2 purchase

Hi all,

Coming back into the bike scene now after a long time away. This came up local to me and for just over £100 I couldn’t say no.
Not sure if all the parts are period correct, I’m sure the xt mech, wheels and shifters are later....I may be wrong.
It’s cleaned up ok, the Matt paint job seems a it tired and stained in places. It definitely needs some new decals, if anyone knows a place to order these from that would be great.

Plans initially, amberwall tyres, new handlebar grips, saddle, brake levers, as the ones on it are quite rough and an upgraded set of forks.

Hope you like it!

Cheers

Re:

Thought so! I’ve not ridden it yet so I will get a better idea of what needs to change then. Apart from the forks, the bike is nice and light and I’m quite impressed.

Re:

Went out for a ride on it yesterday and really happy with how it rides. Obviously with it being aluminium it’s quite stiff but it handles great and the forks actually are not that bad, they must have been looked after as they are smooth and didn’t feel them top out at any point. I think at this point the changes to make are cosmetic rather than functional.

Re:

Yeah, I didn’t waste anytime I’m picking it up once I saw the advert! It’s been about 6 years since I had my last 90’s bike so wasn’t sure what the going rate was for that era, didn’t realise that the groupset and wheels are newer until I got it home and had a proper look. I used to race on clockworks when I was in my teens so this appealed to me. It’s a decent base to start with which is what I wanted.

Re:

Morning all,

Bit of an update with the build. Although not 100% period correct I got some fresh decals from eBay - only a fiver and it’s freshened the frame up loads. Touched up a few of the scratches around frame and it actually looks much better than when I got it.
Thanks to johndeverill for the forks - much better performance than the RST team 461’s that were on it originally and orange colour to tie in with the new decals and with the planned orange bolt changes throughout I have.
Some Schwalbe comp cx’s are a great improvement on the tired and cracked tyres it came with.
Next is to source a seat that doesn’t resemble a sofa - although it is quite comfy! Tioga powerstuds are here to be fitted and I have a nice specialized chainset that although not period correct is in lovely condition and a fair bit lighter than the FSA effort that’s on it now.

More updates to come soon....

Cheers

Cracking deal that.
I like the O2 - very light frame - and no pesky disc tabs.
I'm just rebuilding mine - but I'd suggest you get some handlebar end plugs ;:

Yeah, I’ve got orange ones on the way!!

There's a site online that sells Orange decals. You can get the O2 top tube decals on there. ;)

To save disappointment I would check the size of decals you are after then put the measurements in the comments section where that particular decal is listed. They will do the decals in every colour, especially flouro orange, which would look good on your O2.

link to the O2 decal.
