Re: Old MARIN Muirwoods mtb

Got some NOS upgrade parts today from local store
Shifter/brakelevel combos Alivio MC12

Front Derauller Exage500LX

The shifters are a bit to new for the bikes (1995 production) but will do, the Front derauller is spot on, production 1990->1992

Re: Old MARIN Muirwoods mtb

Ok, some updates.

Fork and stem is off, headset is in good nick.
Also right side BB cup is off, came out nice after some heating whit a heat gun using the vise and human power , seem the BB has seen its best

The left side is still there

I see only to ways to go on, get/make a proper tool or the tempting one to grin down 2 flay parts as on the right side cup and take it out clamping the cup in the vise.
And the seatpost is still in  given it WD-40 therapy so far, I guess heat is the anwser here also? Advise would be thankfull.

Ok, the other BB cup is out :D

Seat post still in
Did try to heat the frame whit a heatgun and had the seatpost in the vice, did not work yet. I fear I heat the frame so the stickers/paint goes bad.
Advice?

We have to weld a massive piece of iron, it usually helps! :D

Edit:  it came out! :)

Seat post:
must be sawn lengthwise, if there are not too deep, perhaps succeed! This is not a small job, but he used to work. :)

Re:

A small uppdate. Did try a different thing, a dent puller
81200%20Color%20Photo%20300.jpg

did pull from the seatpost, having a set of old HT2 bearing cups in the BB to avoid stretching it oval whit a tire iron thro the BB cups and supported by my feet. The effect, well in 20 min the seat post came ~1,5mm out, and I got a sore hand.
I now have it in the vise upside down and the seat tube filled whit WD40 up to the bottlecage hole. I give it regulary heat treatment whit the heat gun to give movement so the ED40 hopfully will go in betwen the frame and seatpost. Have to work out a way I can use the dent puller the other way, having the frame hanging somewhere so I can use the gravity to use the dent puller and use heat the same time. Just need to find out how to hang the frame to do it....

So far so good, but any attempts to get the seat post out has failed. Even cooling it....
I will end this project sadly, but there is a big chance you will see this frame again on this site, whit a new owner carrying on....

But looks I will not be whit out a splatter Marin, I think I just did buy this Muirwoods!

And its even in proper size for me!
