Thanks for the interest guys. Interesting observations. My thoughts is that its a very carefull retro-stealth renovation. :roll:

Obviously a lot of thought has been put into it; with the Rack taped to chain stays, Flite ti saddle, carefully thought out stem and chainset.

Maybe I will leave a note if its there tomorrow.

Presumably he doesn't know the value of it - only the rear wheel is chained up, so a thief could very easily take the rest of the bike and leave the wheel.

Sure, I'll keep an eye out for it over the next couple of days. I always fancied a Yo Eddy, sadly this looks way too small. Maybe I could buy it and dream of a swap for a larger version. So realistically what should I offer him?

Start with £50 or £100. Maybe go up to £150. It's built up with pretty cruddy stuff and chained up only by a quick release wheel therefore it's not worth that much to the guy that owns it now.

Trouble is, if you start offering too high or look too keen then the guy might start to realise he has something special and goodbye bargain.

If you buy it cheap and swap or sell high but use the cash to get one in your size (or even a comparable alternative) then it's not really profiteering as you end up with the same type frame you originally bought as a keeper.

Besides, the way it looks now it's probably going to end up on the scrapheap in a few more years so don't feel guilty about offering for peanuts. Just tell him you always wanted one as a kid - gives you an excuse without making it sound valuable.

Just tell him you love the colour/ your kid wants one that colour.
Easily plausible without arousing suspicion.
