Old English bike, but what?

That fork can be saved. Blast, acid etch prime and paint. Just scrap the chrome.
I should have clarified better in my first post that the chrome on the fork cannot be saved. The frame and fork are being painted right now. It will retain the chrome head tube lugs though. I'll begin building it up soon as I get it back, but it won't have any decals applied unless I can identify it. The bike is at a shop outside Madison Wisconsin called Yellow Jersey. It's probably one of the best bike stores in the US for vintage bikes, parts, restorations and knowledge. Andrew Muzi, the owner,is a legend in the bike community.

I should have also mentioned that the bb is English threaded and right handed, both sides.

....now that is unusual, according to sheldon brown's website only french and italian threaded b/b's have a right hand thread on the drive side and neither of those shares thread dimensions with english threaded b/b's (although the french has the same shell width - 68mm).

Thanks for the link Matt70. Any source of information will be of help. Here's a link to an old thread on Bike Forums that was started by the previous owner when he was looking for help to ID the frame. One of the people in that thread was the guy that he got it from years earlier. That guy linked to a thread he started on it back in 2011 so this has been going on for a while now. When I get it back from the paint shop, hopefully he will be able to fill in a lot of the blanks such as BB type etc. I know it's rh thread on both sides, and I was able to screw in an English threaded non drive side into both sides. I didn't have a french drive side to check.

Early 50s going on the early Nervex Pro lugs. 1951 could well be the year from the 51 in the frame number, 12 could be the month, 9 or the 7 could be the frame number. Could be a modified Ekla fork crown.

Nice frame, whatever.

I think you're on the right track. I've been thinking 9-month(or date),51-year,12-date(or month),7-frame number. Ekla is about as close as I can come up with also on the crown. Thanks for your ideas. Now if I could just find someone with the same number pattern, I may be able to decal it when I get it back from the painter.

Re:

I got it back from the painter. Now I can start to build it back up.

Re:

Now that is a very nice shade of blue. I was pretty much undecided what to do for my '54 Ellis Briggs but it was going to be something with a cream head and seat tube panel. Looks like you have decided for me.

Re:

Thank you guys. He was able to save the chrome on the head tube lugs and the front and rear dropouts. He did a nice job on it. Now if I could just decal it, it would look complete.
