Gripshift are king.
Thumbies are shite and for numpties.
Modern newer rapoidfires sit in the middle.
Excluding the CX gripshift they are poor, as as are low end series gripshift, even original RF and RF+ are better. But compared to srt500/600 they cannot compete, even the two sets of sutour thumbies I've thrown in a box in disgust.

I prefer thumbies, RF is ok but the shift never feels as positive as thumbies and I've not used gripshift enough to judge.

Rapidfires are lower than gripshift :?: :?: :?:
Gripshift are for folk who cant master there own digits. Gripshift are for mitten wearers probably connected by string so they dont lose them compared to glove wearing sophisticated types.

i have three with thumbies and one with RF. gets confusing as i ride them all regularly. the RF one may have to change. Can you get 8 or is it 7 plus 1

MT62 thumbies and XT M732 thumbies work 8 spds without issue for me, so far but others may say different. The Mitten wearers that is.

I've always found if the bike is clean with good clean/lubed cables etc you can feel the compromise of an xt thumbie on an 8 speed block.......it's just about ok if you set up the cable tension around the middle of the block, rather than on the outer edge as you would normally, to 'share out the compromise'......*
