Oh man...I think I just became a collector

You were always a collector, it’s only now that you’ve accepted it.
Welcome to collectors not so anonymous.

Welcome to hell.
Last week I determined to conquer this habit and drew up plans for what I call my Bike Endgame.

I looked at the bikes I have plus those I have yet to restore and the small mountain of parts, then I looked really hard at my life and really tried to figure out exactly how many bikes I actually need, I mean sure I could survive with one, but having a back up is just sensible right? so OK, two it is then.

But then I could do with one that rides lovely but looks like shite, so I can leave it locked up in my progressive town with all of its skyrocketing crime without worrying about it getting nicked, so OK then, three should do it, definitely three, a commuter/cruiser, an all rounder back up with wet weather set up and a shitter for trips into town... but I do still like my trail riding, and while my main commuter/cruiser can do off road no problem at all I can surely justify a bike set aside just for that specific purpose, and keep the commuter/cruiser for it's primary role, I mean that makes sense, purely from a practical perspective.

Four then, that's great... although... those ludicrously fat wheels I just bought, and the frame that I bought for them, and that nutty stem - for that silly unpractical bike that will serve no other purpose than to make me smile, life is too short not to have a bike that exists solely to make one smile, and yeah, OK, sure - all my other bikes make me smile too but that's just a secondary side effect, they don't exist solely to make me smile so they don't really count. Five then.

And I will definitely sell the Marin, the Rocky Mountain and the Muddy Fox and the Cunningdale (OK not the Cunningdale) as soon as they are restored.

Glad that's sorted then, best go tell the missus the good news.

"I just became a collector" is the cyclists equivalent of an alcoholic saying "I'm a whisky connoisseur." Welcome to the club.

Be very careful... I ended up with 27 bikes at one point, it was utter madness - fun, a great distraction from work back then but my god, unless you have deep pockets, it hurts to see so much £ just sat there lol...
