after a bit of a search ,i still non the wiser
who was the first aftermarket q/r manufacturer
was it paul's .or ringle . or cooks ,or ?????

when did hope get into this stuff ? 91 ish with the old triangular ones ?

Ringle's generally credited with making the first 'lightweight' aftermarket qr's c1990, but I think the Pauls were available a year or so earlier..?
Dunno when the Hopes or Cook's arrived tho'

Pino Moroni designed and produced super lightweight qr's in the 70's, then licensed the design to American Classic. I had a set and they were ultra cool. Hand turned ti rods with alloy caps, perfection.

Depends what you mean by "lightweight".
The major intent with the Ringlé skewer was to "lose the internal cam" if the little circlip on the end of the operating lever got lost, the skewer would fall apart. Not too uncommon at the time with essentially road skewers being introduced to new failure modes they would never have seen on the road.
Perhaps American Classic etc was ealier, but still an internal cam idea. Ringlé was the first of what we know of as the lightweight aftermarket skewers in 1990 iirc..

When did Salsa put in an appearance? 1990 seems a rather late date to me - fancy skewers seemed to pop up as long ago as I can remember, which is back to 1988.
