Hopefully will be up for a 9am Blue circuit, I'm going to the lakes this afternoon and the camping barn I'm staying in is only a mile or two from Whinlatter
Thanks to everyone for today it was a good blast out. Weather wasn't in our favour, but it was still good fun. Apologies for missing lunch, wanted to crack on and keep riding
It was really nice to meet this slice of the retro crowd today and thank you for making this slightly non retro rider welcome, it was a great morning and I regret having to bail after lunch for my delivery duties!
Firstly thanks to everyone who turned up and contributed to a great days riding. Great to see so many new faces and their bikes of yesteryear.
We completed the North Face, South Face and the blue route, which is good going even by modern standards. There was a crash or two, but nobody was hurt and we had a few mechanicals, mainly involving tyres. Surprisingly it the blue route that finished most peoples day.
BoTR went to MacRetro's Velomaniac, choosen at random by a bloke struggling for breath at the top of the South Face.
Good to meet everyone today, and despite the horrible weather in the morning and the perilously slippery slate, I had a really good time.
All the old bits on my bike handled the conditions pretty well, it's just a shame about slicing through a brand new modern rear tyre and having to jog back to the car park.
time for a longer reply now I'm on a proper PC rather than my phone
Thanks for making the 3 of us so welcome
Aaron (Modern Scott) had never done any serious off roading before, but enjoyed himself a lot so will be doing more.
Craig (aka Bobby) on the Retro Trek again was very glad to have come up to do the ride, and was impressed with the trials there, if not with his 15 year old brake pads! He also passes on the thanks for the little bit of modern technology used to fix his snapped chain. Something we didnt no existed after being out of the game for so long - the powerlink!
I also struggled with the old brake pads/cant's as they were some of the steepest downhills I had done since getting back on the bike, so will do some investment in that area. Had a big blow out on the rear coming off the second red run. Thats probably where I damaged the tyre? New tube and off again to get that shot (above) that looks like I'm about to take monster air, but the back wheel probably didnt get any higher than that - lol. Pity close to the start of the blue route with a little more tyre pressure the tube went again. I did have a spare tyre at the car but called it a day and by the time I was back at the car with a clean bike you were all coming back in anyway.
Will come again Might try Dalby next Sunday all being well.
