Now THIS is how you respond to a mis-posting

I know it would be a bit like sticking a note to someones back saying "kick me", but it might work

maybe with a membership status saying "Newbie, pleaase be gentle while I settle in" :wink:

To be fair tho, the arrangement of the front page is a little confusing when you first browse the site..... in the initial list of "rooms" as it were, the <98 MTB section is way off the page, and as there is no equivalent for BMX or Road, its easy to see why things can be missplaced by new posters

It's not just the 'short-shrift' responses to 'unenlightened' Newbies I dislike but the posts that go 'unanswered' altogether;

Even if I can't help directly I'll post a reply with the caveat 'I'm sure someone will soon correct me if I'm wrong...' :wink:

Incidentally, SWMBO has christened the Forum 'Face-BIKE' :lol:

Face bike is a good un!

How about all newbies get an automatic pm directing them to the rules etc.?
Not sure how hard that is to setup.

I don think there will be a need for a newbie tag as there is the post count.

I may simply be speaking for myself as some one who has pointed people in the right direction more times than I care to remember but... I get very bored of typing the same old reply. I am sure once upon a time I put the similar sort of efforts into my posts sign posting the XYZ thread for example. There are even examples where I bothered to search it out and hyperlink it in my reply. These days however I cant be bothered, there are so many one hit wonders who sign up looking to sell something that it isnt worth it to pice together an eloquently worded, hyperlinked response.

Sure some times I will still reply with a rather abrupt "needs to be in the 'Whats my XYZ worth? thread'" Which if the shortness offends any one I can assure you it isn't meant in mallice.

So yes nice reply BarneyBBags, but I can't see you typing it for every newbie and I don't blame you for it. (If you did you'd be accused of having far too much time on your hands!)

as a mod this happens ALL the time. I try to be polite. I tend to copy and paste from a document I have on my desktop for the standard 'needs to be in xyz' or 'needs a price' type answers.
