Ritchey stem, Prestige fork and frame are all in primer and ready for paint. I'm going to do some test patterns for the fade before I commit to the frame color scheme. I'll post up the final prep pictures soon.

I'm convinced I can get the paint down before another 6 months goes by!

Promised Stem shots. This is a Ritchey Comp stem...made by Hsin Lung. You Zoom freaks out there will recognize the serviceable weld quality.

I sanded the logos and after a smidge of wet rub down to control the grit, hit the stem with primer and a bit of final sanding. Then a second coat of primer.

It is a 140mm 10 degree stem that should suit the Yokota well.

And the frame, ready for paint. The work on the stays is all prepped metal, taking off only the brass from the old rack mounts and not getting into the frame tubes at all. They are 99% smooth as a baby's butt, and after the color layers and clear and all that related sanding, you'll never know there were rack mounts ever on the frame.

And the fork. The rack mounts will stay here (unless you convince me otherwise! ) because they are partially integrated with the dropout body, rather than the little 'ears' that are common to forks, and like were on the rear drops of the frame (see above). Lopping off these eyelets makes me worry about the long term integrity of the fork, so I think they should stay.

Frame and stem in white base color tack-coat. No sanding or surface prep to the paint in these pictures. That will happen after next color coat. Then light prep and then the fade colors will come.

PAINT!



Observations...

The blue and the yellow are nice , and while they don't show too well on the computer, they look great in life. The green is too dark I think... I may need to look for another shade. If I keep the green, I'll roll back the fade line a little and go with more white. maybe a little less green would do the trick.

The stem is yellow around the bar clamp, I took the picture before I did that.

I now have to sort the map graphics themselves. Another post to come!
