Not vintage or French Tourers/Campeurs, Trade/Porteurs, Audax/Randonneurs, Commuters/Town

A.S Gillot Alpine Tourist De Luxe. Stunning, it wasn't just the French that could make tourers. It is though I feel heavily inspired by the constructeurs. Very pic heavy, because so many interesting details, from one of England's top builders. Not my text below.

24'' Alpine Tourist De Luxe. Gillotts most expensive model. This is a very rare original example, it has 38 braze ons. The Resilion double levers were designed and made in Gillotts workshop, possibly to the customers specification. The rear rack is brazed onto the seat stays but has u-shaped brackets to fit over the chromed drop outs. The original owner had toured all over Europe and had been to North Africa, Morocco on it. It had been stolen in Spain. He came back to the UK and later the Spanish Police found it and it was repatriated. They were always specified in this Gunmetal grey colour and the distinctive feature is the frame number stamped on a small brazed-on plate next to the headbadge. This meant that you didn't need to turn your heavily laden bike upside down so that the Border Customs could read the frame number.
