... To pull apart a recently acquired set of old judys that were stiff as hell and find the elastomer had been replaced by what appears to be flexible hose. Effective way to almost lockout the forks, maybe. Bloody stupid, probably. Anybody have thoughts on the matter?

What a bodge.

Can't remember what or when it was exactly, but I passed on some forks to someone on here for spares or I was going to dump them, as they just didn't work at all, the chap took them apart and the 'elastomer stack' was made up of bottle corks!! :shock:
 
I thought stiff forks, might just be sticky/stuck, elastomer lost its bounce something like that.
They still have the rest of the internals so at least the hose was damped!
 
What kind of hose is it?

If air hose, then you had an air spring.

If water hose, then it was hydraulic damping. :mrgreen:
