Noob and first real Retro Project Bike

Hi All,
New to the forum and a noob to the retro bike stuff. I did do a restoration last year on a 96 Bontrager Privateer Comp with a Waltworks fork and a mix of old & new parts. But I know in some circles that does not count because it's not a true Bontrager frame. I have a shot at picking-up a 86 Bridgestone MB-1. I am not sure what I am going to do with it. Keep as is or new old mix. I am sure I am going to have some questions. The pictures will show you what I have to work with.

Keep it original, looks like its all there & will be fun to ride. You'll be able to find anything you need on here. If you wanted new stuff, why not buy a new bike? (they're better value for money now than in the 80's/90's!)
What's wrong with '96 Bontragers? Welcome aboard!

That is a brilliant bike. All original, and perfectly proportioned.
I'd keep it original if it were me. Looks like it will clean up nicely.

Nice bike, keep it original.

I don't think the shock absorber you have will fit it.

I like it. Reminds me of my very first mountain bike. Keep it original. Late 80's bikes have very distintive characteristics like U-brakes under the chainstays, interesting cable routing, high rise stems, a raked fork and friction thumbies. It'd be a shame to move away from the bikes personality by 'modernising' it.
What you've got is a very nice original bike in good original condition, and I really like the proportions, the colour and the double bottle cages. I even like the look of the pannier.
The only things I'd look at changing would be the saddle and potentially getting some skinwall tyres.
There is a good timeline for placing period correct components here:

I like it :) good clean would sort that out. Definitely keep it period.

Thanks for the feed back. I guest the first place I will start is with a good cleaning and treat the frame. I think if I keep it as is, then I will have to put in on a good biking trip and take it down the GAP & the C&O Canal.
