As well as having no grip and washing out constantly, I'm finding the nobby nics on my zen pinch flat every other ride.

I'm only 11st don't ride hard. Do I replace tubes or tyres ? Had some decent tubes in but didn't make much difference. Assume its weak sidewalls.

I have decent pressure on the tyres by the way

Re:

I have the tubeless version with the EVO pacestar snakeskin sidewalls and have no complaints...run them at around 30psi with stans sealant inside 2.2 version on the rear and 2.35 Hans Dampf on the front and have no worries....

Re:

Might try and ghetto seal them.

If the rims don't say tubeless ... Reckon its a go-er?

There are ways and means to get that to work the ghetto route would be my first...but having tried Racing Ralphs, Bonty MudX and now the Nobby Nic/Hans Dampf combo these seem best for our UK trail conditions. Another alternative would be Maxxis High Roller and Ardent...

Re:

Had a look on the Alex website. Think its tubeless ready.

First for me. Read how to do it enough just need to take the plunge.

I think it depends a lot on compounds. These are stock n nics and plasticky compound.

Do it...I have been riding tubeless for about 18 months now on my 29er with very few issues. They do take a bit of ooompf to get them initially seated on the rims, but a good track pump will do this (Top peak joe flow mountain is ideal!) When I changed over my winter Bonty Mudx tyres for the Nobby/Hans combo I was amazed at how many little thorn prick leaks had been sealed without my knowledge! I could only tell when I took them off as there were little "latex trees" on the inside of the tyres where the sealant had sealed the puncture with out my knowledge!

Tyres with the snakeskin walls are much tougher so head for those...if you want a reasonable price then get them from the "German" site bikediscount.de for around £30 per tyre.

Re:

You could try Halfords online. I bought a pair of Nobby Nics last year for £40 the pair, 2.25 Evo, Pacestar, snakeskin double defense. Horribly squirmy on narrow (717) rims but lurvely on wideys.
Run them tubeless with Stans sealant.

Re:

Been running 2.25 nobby nic evo skins for a couple of years on xc717 rims on my Kona and had no problems with squirm but it is the limit of mavics tyre spec. y best tyre of choice. other than hawthorns they are as good as any similar tyre for punctures.
Need to get 2.1 for my other bikes to see what they are like.

Keep meaning to tubless them though.

On-one usually have good prices
