Next Year's (now This Year's) Classic Rides

Yep, just what Old Ned said. I'll be tapering nicely as I'm away for a whole week before the ride. So there will be 3 weeks intensive training from now and then a week off to build up reserves.

Last one up Pendle buys the drinks in the pub afterwards!
But don't forget there's Waddington after Pendle to contend with.

Mark.

You might as well give me the drinks order now... I'll also be charging for shelter to cover the round...
The last month has been pretty much a write off on the training front so I'm now questioning my mental state, should've taken the convertible sports car midlife crisis route.

You mean there's more than one big climb  :!:

Mine's a pint................................ ;)

Or two......................

This is my lunchtime training ride until I can find a steeper longer hill.

Just revisited the routemap for the Pendle Trial this w/e using the online instructions in case anyone wants to take a peek (or should that be peak):

Looking at the big motorway roundabout near Blackburn made me gulp, more terrifying than any of the climbs.

I see it is a sell out event now. FWIW, I will be the one pretending to be Robert Millar* by wearing a Peugot top, probably with several (non-retro) baselayers as it looks to be a tad nippy first thing :)

*Disclaimer: Please note that my pretensions to be like RM only start and end at wearing a similar top.

There appear to be 2 riders with my name. I know I'm one of them, perhaps the other is my alter-ego - or I've got a split personality and don't realise

That last 15 miles is going to kill me and not just the motorway roundabout. Not happy that last month's glorious weather has gone but fingers crossed it'll won't be either windy or wet. This is my first proper organise ride so not sure what to expect. Will I be frowned upon if I'm not fulling lycra'd up. It's not especially becoming for a man of my age. :p Done as much training as I can including a couple of 45-50 mile rides in the last few weeks. So I know in theory I can do the distance its just the amount of climbing thats worrying me. This is the profile of my last big ride but nowhere near the climbing effort to come.

Oh, I'll be the scared looking one
on this

Nice looking bike there Kerplunk. I am sure you will be fine on the day, enjoy the whole thing and try not to get dragged into someone else's speed. Just take it as 3 rides...to the feedstop, the cafe and then the end. Job done.

If I remember from last year, the first third is reasonably hard with an uphill start, but we're all fresh; the second third is delightful - rolling down the river; but the last third is rather desolate, scenery-wise, with long, straight road climbs that sap the remaining juice out of you.

I'd not get sucked in to going quite so fast in the second third, now I know this route, just to save a tad more energy for the final third than I had last year ie. nothing!

Yes, the roundabout is daunting, but will be quiet on Easter Sunday.

As an aside, Ed Edwards and I did the Ronde Van Vlaanderen sportif on Saturday - amazingly well organised, cheap, well-attended and a rather challenging 135kms mainly due to the battering you get on the pave. Will definitely do it again....
