Next Year's (now This Year's) Classic Rides

^^ Indeed. Could be part of the reason why I'm busy elsewhere that day... I'd have to do the short circuit unless I get bitten by a radioactive spider or something between now and then!

Yep, easter egg hunt with the kids seems a better option to the shame of getting beaten by the under 10s and grannies doing the short course.

Alright you two, that's enough!! You're beginning to make me doubt myself now and that just won't do. ;)

Mark.

Sorry. I have every confidence in you and the other intrepid entrants. I always was a short distance wimp (and did most of my racing around Cambridge where the biggest hill was the bridge over the M11)!

Right, I've now gone from dismissing it completely to checking with the missus that I'm ok to disappear for the day. Have sent an email to see if they've got any places left. Off to the wanted section now to see if anyones got some spare climbing legs and stamina.

Oooh, good lad! You know you won't regret it, honest! :D

Even if there's no 'official' places you can always turn up and ride around with us.

If by "ride round with us" you mean ride with you for half a mile before being dropped out the back then yeah could do. Havng never done anything like this before I'm not sure what to expect other than extreme lung and leg pain.

I sent off an application last week and am hoping to get in (haven't heard yet). Luckily the bottom gear on the ALAN I will ride is 37" so I should be able to keep a decent cadence throughout.

Kerplunk, if you really think you might struggle then there is always the Cauldron route although it does miss out all the nice climbs. Bear in mind that my mapping is very rough.

If you can work your way up to a 30-40 miler (with a few lumps thrown in) beforehand then you should be fine on the Trial though.

I rode it on my DynaTech last year - great day, great weather and great crowd. The pie and peas tasted like heaven on earth by the time I'd finished!

A 'long' 50+ miles if that makes any sense with climbs that, although not uber steep, eat away at your energy as the day goes on. There's a great section just over halfway way as you descend gently along the river for ages and you feel like you must be near home... sadly, there's a couple of sneaky beggars in the lasy couple of miles that finished me off (I particularly remember a nasty hairpin bend coming back into town where my wobble nearly had be tumbling at less than walking pace).

Highly recommended event and, subject to injury or mental fatigue from attempting the Tour of Flanders (read: beer/frites overdose) the weekend before, I expect to be there again.

Looks like there should be a good RB turnout, I just hope the weather is kind to us.

Who's going to be at the front of the lead-out train to the finish?
