Next Year's (now This Year's) Classic Rides

Time for a quick update?

Anyone else entered the Pendle Witches event? I was chatting to the organiser at the Manchester Jumble and he confirms he's got my entry.

So there's no going back now

Got to find my climbing legs in the next couple of months. I think I might have left them in the understairs cupboard.........................

I haven't had any confirmation but the cheque has been cashed so I hope I'm in.

The issue of climbing legs is pressing on my mind at the moment too but even more important is the question of technique. I'm so used to Ergo shifters now that I need to re-educate myself on how to change gear going uphill with down tube shifters. Sabden is a 35 mile ride from my place so a recce might be in order to sus out Nick O' Pendle - or is that taking it too far?

Change gear before you have to, I think that's the secret.

You could always take the car with the bike in the back - or WE could?

Once I've found at least one climbing leg that is :D

I've just got this in my inbox:

"Hello to All,

There are still a few places left so tell your mates!

Thanks again for all your support,

Sean and all the Pendle Witches Team. "

And am really, really pleased - in spite of having ample evidence from last Sunday's ride that I am in no way sufficiently fit

Me too! Only pie and peas, I was hoping for a full 3 course Sunday lunch- -or rather late evening dinner the time I'll probably finish ;)

Hope Mark's got his, that means at least 3 RB'ers then.

hang about so i turn up, get pie and peas...invariably win best classic on my raleigh pursuit which i've just finished hammeriting, then win best dressed by wearing a load of tweed... enter the raffle whilst clutching my lucky rabbits foot (rabbit which for the record was fed only the finest hand picked organic 4 leaf clover) thus winning myself the bike on top of everything else? all without actually having to cycle anywhere? sounds good to me.

That said I don't think I can go because my back has been giving me serious jip these last few weeks...I think the bike gods are trying to tell me to take it easy. Shame sounded like a nice day out (well up to the having to cycle up hills bit)

Yep, I'm in - no backing out now! Hope they have some veggie pies available or else it's a great big plate of peas for me.

Now I have to decide whether to stick to tubs or shine up some old MA2s I kept from my wife's old bike. I'd prefer to ride tubs but might have to invest in some new ones as all mine are at least 20 years old.

Looking forward to seeing my fellow RetroBikers there if not before.

Perhaps you ought to have the peas before you start, give you a bit a jet-propelled assistance  ;)

I got some Continental tubs from Chain Reaction recently at a fair price. Not fitted them on a rim yet but they look OK. I'll probably be on 'clinchers' (ugh!) for this ride though.

Anyone know of a hill around Leeds thats a similar length/steepness to Nick O Pendle that I can compare it to? Don't think I'm foolish enough to enter just wondering how much of it I'd have to walk if I did.
