Apparently those Splashbacks are terrible to ride on regardless of colour matching...

Decals need to scream 'ZASKAR' in big f**k off letters on the down tube

I rode my STS on a pair of Splashbacks once and have to agree with your comment, she's now wearing blackwall Onza Porcs and the grip is much better. The tread isn't that dissimilar so how does that work?

Molds, materials, beading, all play a part. Rolling resistance and so on.

Wouldn't surprise me - Charge tyres are relabelled Kendas  I had Coasters (700c road tyres) on a Plug, and they're made of cheese. They puncture easy and wear out in no time. The tanwalls are very wobbly too. From all I've heard about Splashbacks I'll never buy a pair.

I stupidly bought two pairs for £26, they did include 4 inner tubes though. Look good so it's a shame they don't perform. I seem to have a bit of a retro tyre rubber fetish so plenty of tyres in the loft to choose from ;)

Now with Smoke and Dart tyres plus Chris King headset, only issue is Latvian eBay seller forgot to pack the crown race. Being posted Saturday.

I just need that and the stem plus decals and this can be finished :)

Thinking I may need to find a longer steerer and crown assembly as this is going to need spacers with a flat stem to fit me comfortably.

You've approxomatley 364 days until next years IconOclassic...
So no rush but don't let to much time slip away whilst looking for that stem

This isn't going to be smart enough or original enough to show there, but hopefully I could take something else, a Shock A Billy, Merlin or Vit T depending on what else is registered. Is there a limit on numbers of certain makes/ models to prevent repetition?

Re: Newest purchase GT Zaskar possibly 1991?

Not much progress in the last week as my plans have changed to include a riser bar instead of flats so wanted to get that on before cabling, bar should be here any day. Funny thing is it's an Easton Riser in black I sold on here that didn't get used so it coming home ;)

Still waiting on the Chris King crown race the gent on eBay accidentally didn't package and then these bits can go on:

I'd always wanted to use the front Magura the bike came to me with and the Pace had specific mounts so unicycle.com sorted me out the mounts and specific bolt to fix them to the Judy FSX. Most of the black paint gas worn off so a bit of gentle wire brushing and polish produced this finish. Not perfect but it's to be a rider. The Pistons weren't coming out equally or returning. Figured that a good degrease and a bit of work with 'Lever' a WD40'ish product may help. They now work beautifully.

This was meant to be a budget build but to be honest it hasn't so thought what the heck and paid over the odds for an NOS Shimano XT II U brake to replace the Diacompe.

Re: Newest purchase GT Zaskar possibly 1991?

A little bit more progress today.

Went to install the Magura front brake and realised I didn't have the D shaped washers or curved resin caliper holders due to the original setup, it's been almost 20 years since I owned Maguras so think I can forgive myself for that. Parts ordered from eBay.

Put a nice new HG71 chain on and decided to use a pair of Tioga Surefoot VI pedals with handy grease port rather than chunky DMR V8's.

I'm just about to strip an RTS with loads of M900 XTR, do I keep the Zaskar as mainly XT or go up a group? My heart says keep it as it is. Any thoughts?
