Newbie - 1995 Kona Cinder Cone - Refurb

You should decide if you are going period correct or full-on catalog spec. In my opinion it can be more rewarding to build it period correct (period meaning 2-3 years from the production year).

I would not repaint NOS P2s and as for tires I think it looks ok with blackwalls too.
The only thing you really should change is your saddle. :)

+1 ditch the couch saddle and fit a nice, streamlined saddle. Flite (not suitable for some bums) or modern charge saddles look quite good. IMO skinwalls for the more retro look. Awesome effort on the refurb - what a save!

Cool!

I thought it might look alright, but as I'm still new to all of this I thought I should double check

I'm thinking a light coloured amber wall could look nice

Also, I'm going to have to admit defeat trying to fit the crown-race to the fork. Damn thing doesn't want to go on all the way. I'm about half an inch shy of getting it seated properly

Guess it's off to the bike shop when I get chance

Oh, just thought I should add......new saddle has been ordered and should be here ready for some more pictures by the weekend

Yeah, sometimes the crown race can be a bit of a pain in the ass to get on (and off) a fork, especially if new or nos it may have some paint/lacquer around it. If it's a lack of tools, going to the bike shop is totally acceptable... a lack of skill however...

Re:

New saddle arrived yesterday, so that got fitted today.

I also managed to connect the front brake and gear cables and get everything properly adjusted. Not a big job, but it's the first time I've done it, so I'm quite pleased with myself

Still to do.....

Rear brake cable, new cassette, pedals, tyres, front mech

Starting to think about replacement tyres.......What size tyres should I be looking to purchase?

Original sizes were 26 x 2.06
What would be the best size for my new tyres? I can go for 2.0 or 2.2

As a newbie I don't what kind of riding I'll be doing, so I probably want a good compromise to begin with

Halfords (sorry) currently have a few different Continental tyres at good prices
Are they worth considering, or are they their budget tyres which should be avoided?
