Bugger it!

I just had another look at the listing for the derailleur and it didn't mention whether it was top or bottom pull. It didn't even cross my mind

So.....does anybody want a NOS top pull XT M739 front mech? :)


Oh, and while I'm thinking about it. If I'm switching back to oem forks and stem, will I need to change my headset?

I have no idea about these things yet. So I don't know if my current set-up is threaded or not, and if that even makes a difference to the headset
 
if you going to go for the utterly correct fork.. yes 95 +96 were still an 1 1/8 threaded. However if your going to wave the white flag. get some threadless ones repainted and use a slightly different stem then no.
 
Ok cool.

I've found a set of P2s with 410 a-c, and 163mm threaded steerer, which I believe is correct for a 19" frame

They also appear to have the '95 style dropouts

They need repainting, but wondered if someone could give me an idea of what I should pay for them?
I want to make sure I don't pay too much for them as they're coming from abroad and the seller wants €30 for shipping costs
 
I've had a bit of a thought this morning. I spoke to the doctors about it, and he said the headache should go in 12-24 hours :)

Anyway, my thought was this.....after looking through the catalogue that Colin posted earlier it appears that my bike is currently built to an almost identical spec to the '95 Lava Dome. Which got me thinking, is my bike a Lava Dome with a paint job? Or were some of the components downgraded by the factory to offset the cost of the "Mountain-Shock" option? Or has the bike just had its components changed through the years?

I know the serial numbers don't tell us much, but do they at least confirm the model of the frame?

I've got three different sets of numbers that I can see on the bike

One set (I believe is the serial number) is on the bottom of the BB. It runs along the BB (lengthways). The number's been stamped into the frame and then primed over, but not painted afterwards. I'm guessing this is correct?

There's also another number on the bottom of the BB. This is a shorter number, with larger stampings. It runs across the BB (widthways) and has been painted over

The final number is on top of the BB. It runs long the BB (lengthways) and is also painted over

Nothing appears to have been tampered with. I just wanted to confirm if I've got a neglected Cinder Cone, or a Lava Dome with a paint job?

The serial number on your frame won't tell you which model the frame is (unfortunately) it will only tell you where and when your frame was made. The number running along the lip of one side of the bottom bracket is the number your looking for, it'll start with an 'H' or an 'F'.

With regards to the model, if I remember right the Lava Dome and the Cinder Cone frames in 1995 were identical. The only differences were the spec and the paint job (so yes, your frame is a Lava Dome with a paint job really) My money's on it being a C.Cone though, don't be too concerned about the spec.
 
Ahh, I thought you could work out the model from the frame number too, Never Mind

The frame number on this one starts with an 'F'
 
Did the 95 CC come with the mountain shock option? I always believed they were sold with the P2's only. In that case the steerer would be 163mm threaded, with the 410mm a-c length P2 and Impact headset. I thought they came with the SRT 800 X-rays shifters too.
