The only deliberate rationale I can see:
a) alter brake feel; would be a marginal difference that some people would notice and prefer since front and rear
brakes perform different functions.
b) increase front tyre clearance from a safety aspect; a buckled front wheel is more dangerous than a buckled rear wheel.
c) increase front tyre clearance from a comfort / control aspect; some people do prefer a wider front tyre, an increase in
contact patch enables better control.

Finally got round to unboxing mine. Dressed it up with more period kit. Just needs a rear derailleur cable and tweek. I'll let you know how it rides

It's got 126mm hubs in for the moment - I have a longer axle from wheels manufacturing to fit and a few washers to fit it properly
Love the way it looks with Super Record, the front mech sits perfectly below the yellow band with some red still showing. This matches Joop's original bike perfectly and it will remain the same on all of the frame sizes with the new decals. This is a key detail which Raleigh has retained. The original size seat tube decals never looked right on smaller frames as the front mech would be clamped on the yellow band or pinstripes. This seems to be a pointless exercise of going to the trouble of painting them only to be obscured. The Ti decals sit neatly inline with the brake pads like Joop's original bike perfectly. I think the new decals certainly set the new Ti 40 apart from poorly decaled replica bikes with the font and spacing exactly as Joop's original bike.... Raleigh have got this key detail absolutely bang on the money. :)

Re:

Thanks Woz.

Ah so that's why they made them decals smaller?

Maybe if we ask nicely either originalshinkicker or JSH will stick some 35mm tyres on and see how that shapes up? :)

JSH's does look good though... if you choose your camera angle carefully..

Re:

Its obvious there won't be enough clearance for 35's, but 28mm could be an option and 25mm no problem. My bike will take 28mm and the chain stays aren't crimped,
the new Ti 40 has crimped chain stays.,...why are chain stays crimped..is there a specific reason for this ...Mmmmm tricky one ?

If there isn't enough clearance for a small fresh road killed mammal to be stuck to the front tyre then it's not a proper road bike I'm afraid. You may as well condemn it to the Velodrome

Joking aside, JSH's bike does look the business.

The chain stays? It's so they don't roll off the table by accident.

Ah... that's it... cheers for that...it's so obvious now
I know I've seen that crown before...ya see one then 250 come along all at once

....actually, it was one of the first things that struck me about the Raleigh.

However on the Masi they are stamped Masi on the side, and the Masi coat of arms is stamped on the top for added tartiness.

I suspect they are both from this company: http://www.allotec.com.tw/series1_1.html
