My larger dog is a lurcher/dane cross.
He is perfectly able to knock over a table or such without thinking.
Your whole family will need to adapt to her, but that is a great way of teaching the kids they have to think around themselves.

this is the reason we will sadly never have a large breed.
our current pack consists of a midget english springer (8 years old & still not even close to calming down) an 8-ish yo rescued ridgeback cross (beaten starved & left in a back yard for 6 months... now probably one of the best dogs I have ever met.) and... herbert. a 2yo black lab. intended to be my gundog but he's got crap hips, crap elbows, selective deafness & is potentially the stupidest creature in the north west of england (excluding kerry katona) so he is now a mere pet.
both me and the missus love big breeds & would have a dane in a flash if the lifespan was typically 14+ because we get far too attached, they are fantastic dogs with bags of character, the dad looks like he will grow into being a big lad too!!!

I can't believe how big great danes get when you see them so small like that.
We have a Labrador and he has grown to be a big and rugged. I remember getting him when he was so small and very puppy like and now he is an old man like his owner (my hubby)! Funny how they do eventually turn to resemble like their owner isn't it?!
He's part of the family. He even has his own room...

Just remember that when Tilly is fully grown, you'll need to take her out for a walk armed with a mini-digger and a bin bag for the poo
I looked after a GD (exactly the same colour as yours - Grey/Silver or is it "Blue"?) a while back, when I lived in Worcester. He was only 18 months old - It was quite funny to watch him galloping around the park with a fully-inflated football in his gob.. :shock:
