Thanks for the replies, yes it's a 16" frame. I may put a Wanted ad in for a pair of Rock shox's mag 21's how much should I be paying for them in decent condition. As long as they work I could always get them resprayed for next to nowt?

Cheers

Matt

May have a set coming off that 1990 GT Team Avalanche frame I have listed in the For Sale thread

Just been pointed here.
I could refurbishment them to a point, if they come apart easily all is well as I still haven't got the tools to do tough one's

mikee, not sure why suspension fork part would stock any parts from them, they just sell elastomer's.

Anyway.
You have 1993 MAG21's
You need a pump. They're about a £10er normally second hand.
You could use a pump if you don't mind guessing air and a football pump needle (hole at the end) to inflate them.
I would give it ago yourself as postage on these there and back kills of any service value, most bought one's of ebay will more than likely need servicing to get them up to scratch anyway.

Check the dust seals, are they cracking (you can buy replacements but cost a fair amount, enduro)
Take the dust seals of, (screw driver and prize them of, may a soak with fork oil will help)
Look at the oil seal and give a clean up while your there (no WD40 or other harsh cleaners! ) Propan-2-ol is probably fine though.

You'll then need to take the top caps of (where the dials are). Loosen the clamps around them, and use a socket or spanner to undo them.
Pour the oil out and pump till most is out.

Of course, you'll need some 5wt fork oil, or if you're heavy some 8wt.
Pour a bit in and pump and pour out, clean them up a bit.
Fill them up with oil (see manual). Put caps in. Pressure them up to 100PSI. Leave for a while, drop the pressure to ~40PSI (see manual)
That is a general service.
Use some Fork grease to blather around the seals and in them when you refit them.
That is a general service

Test them.

Other problems are bushings could of gone. Might be able to source some from bushing suppliers, but I wouldn't know where to start. Then you have to fit them.
Oil seals may have gone (parts under the dust seals). Not seen these come up for sale often, then they might have dried over time anyway.

If you have an established Local Bike Store that is a RockShox service place or was BitD then go have a chat with them.
If they have any tools I wouldn't mind them.

Catalogues, service guides are in the Archive, under RockShox ;)

Hi all

Thanks for the offer gm1230126 but I'm guessing the postage from the States would be to high.

Fluffychicken I would like to pay someone to refurb them rather than me do it myself and get it wrong. How much would a refurb cost? Not bothered about the looks as I could paint them myself.

Cheers

Good starting point with some nice bits to keep on it and trade up. Xtr rear to keep, front to keep or trade up. The chain set i would go m730 or if money to burn m900 xtr. Good luke you will get there.

Well I've done abit to her in the last few weeks...

Still thinking about changing the chainset for an Xt 737.

So there's nearly my 2nd project finished.

Cool

Really good work!

Nice to see you put some proper shifters on her too:)

Why did you choose XT over XTR?

Aesthetics? availability? cost?

Hi thanks for the positive comments.

I went for XT as I just love the looks more than anything, plus don't really like the colour of the XTR rear mech.

I'm thinking of spraying the seatpost a matt black and if I can pick up a 737 chainset I may swap them over. Plus I'm looking of putting some Mavic rims and xt hubs once I source them.

It's never ending. I've promised the missus that 4 bikes is enough but I want a road bike next.

Cheers
