Hopefully will try and get some advice off the Gt gurus on here. I take it the forks are Rock Shox mag 21's ? Can you have these serviced as they need one.

Will update when I started changing her. Do you think it's a reasonable deal to swap the Xtr rear for a Xt one?

Cheers

Matt

Nice bike, I'd stick with the xtr rear mech, they are sweet bits of kit!

I think that TFTuned service rock shox, would be interested to know if anyone else has any other advice as I have some in need of a service too!

that looks alright bit polish paint and some skinwall tyres will make
a big difference
http://www.suspensionforkparts.net/sitemap.php do re-build kits for them , do you have a pump for them ?
they may cheer up with a bit of use , if they've not moved for a while
the seals can shrink , about 40 psi no more mind

just noticed they aren't listing them , so maybe a mail would help

Looks like a good base for a project there....

Are those brake levers (Dia-compe's) for Cantis? But running V's?

Yep the frames dull but solid, I've had a quick play with some Autosol and comes up like a dream, will polish it when I get time.

Yes Steve it's got Dia-comp levers however the previous owner hasn't been using it and nowt works, brake pads don't even line up with the rims. He basically threw whatever parts he had to make it run. Got a few nice bits on it, but the forks are sloppy and been stripped of paint. Does anyone know what size I would need as a pair of Mag 21's went for a fiver on Ebay last night.

Cheers

Matt

You'd need 1-1/8" steerer tube diameter, and if it's an aheadset you have then, you'd probably get away with a steerer length from 170-200mm, but don't quite me as I'm not an expert....

If you go for the longest steerer you can find, you can always space it/cut it.... ;)

Thanks for the replies, yes it's a 16" frame. I may put a Wanted ad in for a pair of Rock shox's mag 21's how much should I be paying for them in decent condition. As long as they work I could always get them resprayed for next to nowt?

Cheers

£30 - £40 should get you a nice pair. This era of RS forks are prone to the gold flaking, so be warned. I refurb'd a pair a couple of years ago by sanding the flaking paint off and painting up with gold Hammerite as its tough stuff and is an exact colour match.

I've had my fingers burnt twice trying to get period-ish RS for my 91 zaskar. I got my bread back, but just go careful and be patient. Nice project by the way and good luck.
