Hmm....I suspect a well-known 70s festive offering hailing from the West Midlands, but which one?

I'll ignore Roy Wood and plump for Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody.

Edit: scratch that, it's Last Christmas by Wham.

David

LOL.
Way too easy for you.

David is the winner..

No, Neil is the winner. I didnt realise he got it before Davids edit.
Sorry David

It was probably a dead heat - either that or David might have got there a biscuit before me, but as he's been very gracious, and you've already ruled on it, this:-

Not sure they'll be needed, but clues: Late 90s, original (not a cover, so nobody sang it before them).

Hello, This is Joanie (The telephone Song) - Paul Evans

Nope.

I was thinking of more of a Roy-Walker-ism, but couldn't be bothered.

Uncannily, I once bumped into him, at a gym, of all places, about 10 years ago (at a guess) and he smiled and gave me that look as if I should recognise him and be a bit awed. I just kept thinking of that scene in Phoenix nights where they got paint on his shiny jacket.

If I had time to ponder your suggestion I'd probably be a tad puzzled, but for now I'll just cut to the chase - no.

Have a listen they sing my finger is on the button over an over

As tempting as it is to go all Bruce Lee and talk about not focusing on the finger, I won't, but the thought is there.
