New bikes are Huuuge! Zaskar trigger warning!

I'm holding fire for now - my friend kas already bumped into the boost/ none boost/ SRAM Shimano splined 12spd what whats are what, let alone axle size and BB type

Mine may look like kids bikies but at least they are ridden by men, manly men!

Literally just bought one, an On-One Scandal XL 29er with boost hubs etc.
Realised that although I still like retro, many of the trails I want to attempt to ride have been modernised to the requirements of modern bikes. Only way I can thus ride them is join the now because the bikes of then don't quite cope, though also the aging me also does not quite cope😂

I guess there's a bit in the middle, like midskool in bmx, where standards are still understandable and aren't driven by an industry who needs to change to sell. Somewhere round the 2008 to 2012 mark.

Agreed. My 2008 hasn't received as much attention the last couple years since getting back into vintage but it's a do-everything-bike, 26" wheels. Light enough to climb hills as well and still has more appeal to me than current offerings:

Yeh, I run a 2011-ish hardtail, it's 26" but fairly modern geometry (slack). Jumps and descends great. Climbs fine. Dropper post a must. 1 x 10 gears. It takes a thrashing without batting an eyelid. My most fun bike.
