New arrival, 96 Kilauea

Thanks, I agree with you on that. It’s more green and brighter in real life. Hoping to brighten it up more once it’s been cleaned. Wheels and spokes are grubby so should sparkle with a polish. I’m not sure the black chainrings do it any justice either. Silver ones may have to be sourced. I’m a happy man though, must say a big thank you to Billy (RB member) for selling me the bike.

Just bought a new chain today, last 8sp in Halfordssssss. Very little in the shop to be honest. Half a dozen BSOs and lots of empty shelves. Also just ordered a decal set from Gil. Once it arrives I’ll get the head tube decal replaced and that should be me finished. Pics will be posted before I get it dirty!

Well, after replacing the chain I discovered the cassette was worn too. Luckily I had an identical low mileage one in my parts pile so that sorted out the slipping and changing issues. Slick and sweet now! Decals arrived from Gil (many thanks Gil) and the head tube one has been replaced. Dialled in the gears, adjusted the squeaking brakes and managed a quick test ride. All is well and I’m happy for the moment 😁. Time to ride and enjoy.

Thanks, to be honest I had a good base to start with. Just a few changes to turn it into “my bike”. If the rain stays off I’ll get out for a ride tomorrow. The wife and daughter want to get out too so fingers crossed it will be a Kona kinda day 😁

Thanks. I can’t wait to get out for a decent run on it. I got a feeling it’s going to be my favourite steed in the stable. It’s got some stiff competition though.

Great looking bike. I'd be interested to see one of these and a '96 Fire Mountain in the same photo as they look to be either the same or a very similar colour.

I’ve seen a 96 Fire mountain and it’s a deep emerald green. The Kilauea is more turquoise blue/green. It’s a bit of a strange colour as it photographs more blue than it is, and looks more green in real life. It depends on the light though, artificial light makes it a darker blue than the pics and it seems to change shades of green when it’s outside depending on how sunny it is.
