Need help identifying my new GT frame

irontam

Old School Hero
Having knocked back an incredibly heavy GT Panomar, I still fancied get a better spec GT, (at least one not fabricated from iron pipe).

I've sourced this one from a guy in Haddington. 22" and has been powdercoated black with the GT & Triple Triangle decals added but not laquered over. Amazed at the lack of weight.

It's aluminum, has the number 7005 stamped on the rear drop outs and a curved end to the top tube (see pictures).

So, GT experts, I've got the following questions ;)

  • Any idea what model(s) it might be? It's very light!

More importantly, what size of BB will I need?

Whats the little hook thing for? I think it's brake related...
Thanks for any help, tam.

Possibly '98 Avalanche..

Frame probably weighs 4.5lb or thereabouts.

**edit to add* the little hook thing is your rear mech hanger and your bb length will be dictated by the cranks you use..
the cartridge will be either 68 or 73mm though..

96/7/8 ,the intergrated seat clamp's unusual

would hazard a guess at a lowend one ,arrowhead or aggressor or so

the hook thing's a mech hanger

what you pay for it?

will build into a nice bike

what size is the b/b shell 68 or 73 mm
and what size seat post does it take 26.8 or 27.2 ?

Cheers guys.

25 notes. Apparently what he'd paid for it previously. Quite chuffed.

Without digging out a verner gauge, I think it's the latter. Will do some proper investigation once I've earned some brownie points with the missus: window sills need painting, lawn cutting etc. etc. :(

With the lower end aluminium frames it is very hard to be specific with the ID.

Backwoods, Agressor, Tempest, Arrowhead....take your pick!

all backwoods iv'e had have had a 73 mm b/b shell
think the pantera's the same

Looks a lot like my '07 Aggressor frame except for the clamp.. that has a separate one, not integrated. .

Wondering if I should put that up for £25 now

Thanks guys, I've got no interest in dressing it up as a high spec GT - Just going to kit it out with whatever I've got in the spares box (plus an obligitory trip to the bike station). Hopefully have it built in time for October in Glentress.

Already peeled off the battered GT stickers, fancy making my own decals. It'll give me something to do at work. :D
