Mystery and Unidentified Parts

Hello again!

I've been putting this one off for a few months now at least as I'm petrified that it will turn out to be a cheap Taiwanese piece of junk.

It was advertised as, "unique" and "art".
But the seller later said it was donated in a box of stuff with no information.
So...how do they know?

Anyway, they seem to be a respected seller of vintage bike stuff in the U.S.A. which commands decent money and they have good feedback.

Anyone seen one similar or the same?

There are factory markings on the insert as normal - which is confusing me if it was hand-made art.
Also, you can see the seam around the middle, where the two halves meet.

Thanks for any help, Andrew. 🤙

I remember them new, can't recall which wholesaler but not exotic, maybe m&l?. They weren't expensive, could be retailed at 20-25£.
I only saw a couple on bikes, they were seen as being hopelessly tacky at the time, and a bit long for an "upgrade".
Anodised gold version also available iirc

I would suspect there are boxes with dozens in around somewhere.
