As a general rule the end of the bars should be 90 degrees to the head tube, but its down to preference really.

I think if the god of handlebars had wanted them all to be at 90 degrees he wouldn't have made them adjustable and instead they would be welded to the stem :) :) :)

Re: My Shorter - ready for summer

As I said its just a general rule, a starting point if you like, like everything else for positioning. It isn't a criticism.
Google Alf Engers, but you may know the history of King Alf anyway.

Re: My Shorter - ready for summer

Just bought one of these off the bay of Evil. Not nearly as clean as yours. Been searching round the web for details on these but seems it was just a bloke in a shop making his own bikes after he raced a bit.

Taken a bit of a punt as the pictures weren't great and the paint scheme isn't as nice as this bike. Looks lovely.

Out of interest what headset is fitted to yours? Mine will need replacing.

Re: My Shorter - ready for summer

A bit more to the Shorter - Rochford story than that :) He never actually made the frames himself, rather he had them made and put his name on them, Barry Chick (as mentioned) was one of the builders.

The OP's frame is a bit of a mix and match for the era with the fully sloping crown fork and yet it had cable eyes on the top tube.

Thanks. Will wait for arrival and take some decent pictures. I know from the pics its decals say columbus and it has 105 groupset and a broken set of bars! Other than that its a mystery.

Re:

Maybe a shorter stem if you can't reach the hoods, the bar angle is freakin' me out too :D

It has a threaded campag headset, which is in good condition, fitted already when I got it.

Re: My Shorter - some better PICS

A few better pictures of my Shorter after a little spin in the sun.
