My recent find (Vitus 979) any help to identify age thanks

60 is the size but your date number is different to mine. I would say that it could well be an '87 model from your number.

Must be '87 +.

My 979, bought October '87 from Ribble Cycles, has the grub screw.
Serial number is: E097064, so that '87' in your serial no can't be the year...

So I'd suggest mine is the 64th frame made in September 87, yours is number 676 of August 87. I can believe that they could be making around 30+ frames per day at the time.

Size should also be one of the two sizes marked on the inside faces of the rear dropouts...mine is 52 54.

As for the stickers: The Colnago and Clark's stickers on the head tube are later additions. The Ciclolinea on the seattube is, I think, just a nice looking handlebar tape finishing wrap. The Vitus TT name and tubing stickers on the frame and forks are original. Not so sure about the smaller one on the downtube, that's an older logo.

Lovely frame, though.

All the best,

Thanks for that. Great insight. Intriguing about the stickers.

Mine doesn't have any, it was originally a Peugeot version but the first owner didn't bother to fit any of the decals.

Can't say that this bothers me, I like the stealth look
