I'm on my phone so it's not great for seeing your pics but it looks like you have the grub screw fixing for the seat post? That will make it mid 80s, the earlier ones, 79 when they were introduced have a traditional seat post bolt :)

Re: My recent find (Vitus 979) any help to identify age than

thanks for that, learnt something new already :D

Re: My recent find (Vitus 979) any help to identify age than

I'm going to say late 80s if the 105 groupset and MA2 rims are original to the bike

Re: My recent find (Vitus 979) any help to identify age than

Now that's a classy looking bike :) Mavic MA2 rims are smack bang in the mid 80's, one of the best looking IMHO as they are a dead ringer for sprints /tubs.

Those hubs look like 7400 Dura-Ace (not the freehub FH 7400) again a mid 80's no expense spared wheelset :)

Nice :D

Shaun

PS the background looks a car-ish, nothing wrong with that as I have a 400 BHP Impreza

Thanks for the comments guys, Well spotted Shaun, yes I am a car guy. Maybe I will start another off topic thread about that
Here are some more pictures, Shimano 600 but rear mech is 105? Nice seat post Campag. Are the decals original?

With the grub screw fixing I would say late 80's at least. Mine is a 1986 and has the conventional style. You should be able to find a date stamp on one of the cast parts of the frame somewhere, possibly the BB shell or the seat lug area? Mine definitely has either 86 or 1986 on it but can't remember exactly where and it's tucked away in the attic at present so can't check. There should also be stampings/mouldings to say what size it is.

I like mine, it's a very nice ride.

If the rear derailleur is a 1051 then 1989 was the year it was produced

Re: My recent find (Vitus 979) any help to identify age than

yes the rear mech is exactly like that. I'm going to have a look at the BB to see what number are on it.
OK it has E087676 on the BB and 60 on the head tube

1987?
