my new project - 1988 Raleigh Quadra

I have bought pair of wheels, not grey rims but they look correct and the correct rear axle width.

I’m 90% certain that’s got a Uniglide cassette on it because I can see the ends of the splines on the freehub. If you don’t have shifters already, any friction shifter will work, or an Exage 6-speed indexed shifter will work if you use a Shimano SIS compatible rear derailleur. Basically any Shimano road derailleur from about mid 90s up to 10-speed 105 5700 series will index correctly 👍

Crucial question is does it have the threaded inner body of the freehub to take a Hyperglide cassette? Late 80s there were lots of Shimano freehubs that took Uniglide or Hyperglide. Every 6400 rear hub I come across seems to have these.

Seems like time for this:

the Quadra project continues.
The complete wheels have arrived and I an very happy with them.
Silver rims - mm no really bothered.
Vee rubber tyres - although not top draw look new and inner tubes holding air.
Spokes look brand new!
105 hub on the front wheel and an Exage on the rear.
Rims run true.

A question about the rear cassette to the knowledge base.
Is there a locking ring missing?
Only a six speed for now - should be able to get up and running with this?
