bought 2nd hand many moons ago for £50 has spent most of its life shed bound but my recent knee problem pre a sponsored walk when i fell (gardening) dilocated knee subsequent injury was diagnosed as large menicus tear anf ruptured ACL :cry:

physio will involve road work on bike so plan is to rebuild my steed and poss run it both road and off-road (when healed).

took several shots to help ID , dating and framesizing

all advice greatfully recieved (except Bin IT)

i think it deserves complete strip down and a right good fettling + upgrading

And I have some part that are going Karma/FOC that may help the build. Brakes, skewers and a few other bits. A mountain LX front and rear mech also in the Karma pile.

Take off all cables and parts you can. With the rust it looks mainly surface but you cant reuse those cables so they can go straight in the bin.

Degrease everything.

Sort the rust. Try vinegar on an abrasive sponge if I were you, that will eat up a lot of the light rust (wipe down after) then you can see what needs properly sorting.

Buy yourself a basic tool kit from on one for £20 this will have nearly all the tools you need and pays for itself http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/TOJW13PC/jo ... l-tool-kit

The wheels might be salveagable but depends how bad the rust is. Tyres need blowing up hard to see if perished or not, but easy and cheap to replace.
