The five year rule is a new one to me so I'm shure you will investigate further.

I expected the systems to be different but I find the rules to be difficult to say the least. When I first came here I paid less income tax than when in the UK, but now the reverse is true.

Taxes and more taxes it seems. Every time I look at something new they have a fee or tax for it.

Don’t they also have a tax yearly on assets/wealth ?


My main issue outside of all the bits of paperwork and various things to understand is that I’m not confident we could maintain the same lifestyle out in Spain as we do here.

Yes costs are lower but also wages. And as someone who is qualified in naff all that worries me.

My understanding of Permiso De Residencia is that you need to have lived there for 5 years on the temporary version first?

If im honest the Spanish rules , taxes and whole system makes my brain hurt so I try not to look yet.

We were married in Spain and from what I’ve learned that wil help me have residency. No doubt with a few euros to the right person will help.

Luckily my daughter has both passports so she can move around freely when she’s old enough.

The work situation is also another concern as I’ve no idea what I’d do over there.

Your daughter will help more than a local like me. I didn´t deal with that. You can find in youtube some expat that tells how they live here in Spain after Brexit.

If it is not for hollidays, it is hard to live outside your country. I have been living in Germany and Poland and .... nope. In winter it was hard time and I didn´t speak polish so ... I was completly alone in a grey and dark country (north, near Vistula lagoon and kaliningrad)

@madjh Hah yes I've seen the single tracks, and the insane speeds some of the riders reach! It's really impressive. I love the feeling of overtaking and outpacing an ebike.

As someone here for maybe 12-18 months, I probably shouldn't buy more than 2 bikes. Although...

For now, I'm just gonna keep hitting the trails on my Razesa until the weather turns. Should be good until late November-ish right?

One of my wife’s best friends , her boyfriend is a keen cyclist at a higher level than me.

We were chatting about riding all year round and I don’t think he quite realised what that means in the UK.

His winter bike was the same as my summer bike - a C64 Colnago. As that’s his off season where he rides for enjoyment rather than racing.

My winter bike is a mudguard shod Planet X.

Weather near Madrid will be fine all year round I feel.

I live in North Spain, the green Spain, so we have lot of nice areas. Lot of single tracks like this, that is why I still love a good 26" bicycle, not bicycles with big tire and wide handlebar, here are a night mare.

My biggest bicycle is 27.5, a Yo Eddie and a SB5T and they have to deal with this ...


Despite you see a close area, it isn´t. It is a open wide open area very long distance frendly because you have lot of tracks and not many hard climbs if you avoid them.

But not far from where I live there are the mountains and they are very nice (that is my car, this climb is around 800m from bottom to top)



And about 60km from the image change a lot. No more mountains. I have done some routes in my Bromton. Easy roads. I live in the middle of the province so I don´t usually have to take the car to go to the mountains or the flats.



And of course you can ride nice retro bicycles and enjoy them. It is not the imagen tourist have of Spain, it is the real Spain. The coast is full of turist and a bit crowded. But yes, tapas are everywhere. Food is more important than buying stuff etc Health and a job is first, them the rest of things will come.

This is very tipical of my city, you cal black puding but it is far from that Easy and tastefull.



Torreznos ... if you don´t like ... you are not human.



But yes, I ´m adited at Patatas bravas, not all taste the same. But I cannot stop
