Ok, so we all had to start somewhere, some had Mustangs some had Lizards but, let us take you a little further forward as your parents buy you your first 'proper' mountainbike from the shop or Grattans catalogue on the 'never never'

Then, a year or two on from that excitement of it arriving as a surprise with Dad putting it together, muttering about bikes being better in his day etc, we move to the difficult teen years, not old enough to drive a car and you're not allowed a moped.

So, here we are, the paperound has paid for a few upgrades, time has taken its toll on the components. You've lost the odd seatpost from leaving it locked up at school, 'rich' mates have given you their hand me downs...

You are starting to regret the Mint Sauce stickers as your mates pull up on brand new Konas/ Oranges etc

Let us return to those halcyon days, summers were hot, cider was still a good idea and you could eat as many sweets as you wanted, and girls , well they were just girls with nice wobbly bits...(but wouldnt go near you or your stinky armpits!)... :p

1988 Jamis Dakota. This isn't the actual one (as that was thieved  ) but an exact replica that I finished last year and now lives in Germany (hence the snowy pics!) for me to use when I'm working there

Nice. Is that the actual original?

nah... mine was a Bickerton 'mean green'

but thought I'd sling this together as some sort of homage to an age past.

Ah ha. I see. Suppose you could use your hi ten beauty also?

Here is my Mirage. This isn't the actual one beacuse that was a)much too big and b)bent.

my mate had one just like that purple one.........really nice compared with my townsend i had :(

My first proper mountain bike was a 1991 Fat City Cycles Yo-something or other. Yo Freddy? Teddy?

Spent a years' hard labor on a low end Peugeot saving all the jr. high school student dough I could make doing every manner of odd job.

My first mountain bike was an Alpinestars CroMegaDx back on 1990, I worked my absolute ass off, running 3 paper rounds to pay for it, and some of the upgrades:

Sadly I don't think this is the original bike, although I did get excited when it arrived a couple of months ago, and some of the 'wear-and-tear' ;) was identical to that of my original bike, but sadly there were no traces of the onza and mint-sauce decals I'd once lavished upon it as a teenager

Was really emotional building this one back together, and at the moment I'm not sure I want to ride it - hope that's not too ghey??
